Patch Description - The symbolism of the 454th Bomb Group emblem:

The stars in the upper left and lower right quadrants represent the four Bomb Squadrons (736th, 737th, 738th & 739th), whose striking force through the black darkness of the oppression, was like lighting coming out of the blue sky, through the daylight bombing tactics of the U.S.A.A.F.
The upper right quadrant represents the principle areas of the group's efforts are represented by the Fasces (symbolizing Italy), the Iron Cross of Germany, and the Fleur-de-lis of France.
The red flag in the lower left is for the courage and valor of the group. -- Richard C. Austin (Pilot - 738th Bomb Squadron)
