On 10 Sep 45, aircraft took off from Yontan Field Okinawa carrying British prisoners of war to Neilson Field Luzon as part of a group of 36 aircraft. Due to weather, pilot was advised to make a circuitous route on the west side of Formosa. Due to confusion with a 5th AF aircraft which reported arrival as #491, lost aircraft procedure was not activated until 13 Sep 45. A typhoon delayed search action, but no trace was ever found. Crew: 2nd Lt Willard C Sharp, Pilot, F/O George R Mortenson, Co-Pilot; 2nd Lt Arden D Daoust, Navigator; Sgt Jean Barrow, Engineer; Sgt Glenn Lake, Jr, Radio Operator & 20 British POWs.
