Piloted by my Uncle, Robert W. Groves, who flew 47 missions (most of them in FORM 1-A), during 1945. After asking my Uncle what the tail numbers were on his "Bird" (even though he had difficulty speaking), with great forcefulness, he uttered "229"!

When the "Jolly Rogers" Liberator "229" broke the world's record for combat missions flown by any Consolidated B-24, it was renamed in honor of President Truman.  At the baptismal ceremony the "Truman's" ground crew and present combat crew salute the honored veteran which has now flown 143 combat missions, and still flew, with a log of over 1400 hours.
