(Account from Milt Eheman in 1992)
Shot down 21 Aug 43, during first raid on Hankow. Under attack by Japanese fighters, two engines out, a cannon shell exploded near the nose, fatally wounding Lt Robert McMurray (P) and wounding Lt Milton Eheman (B). Lt Alfred Hansen (CP) flying with only one outboard engine functioning, landed on a sand bar in the middle of a river. Crash trapped the wounded pilot and bombardier. Infantry firefight broke out between Japanese troops on one side of river and Chinese troops on the other. Chinese won and rescued survivors of crash; 3 crewmen were dead.
