My Uncle, Pilot 1st Lt. Malachy F. Byrne, Jr. (later Capt.), completed 51 missions and received a Purple Heart in a raid on marshaling yards in Italy 21 Jul 44 and a Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission in Rumania 16 Aug 44.
