My Father, Lester W. "Smoky" Halonen (Crew Chief), received the Bronze Star for developing a method of using "de-icer hoses" on the B-24, to extend flight time between engine changes. Before his inventive modification, engines were changed out every 250 hours. SHOO-SHOO BABY was the first B-24 to log 500 hours without an engine change.
