McCORD MARSHALL |
Port (Left) Side
Contributor - Sean Marshall
My Grandfather Lt. McCord Marshall (Pilot) was shot down 7 Aug 44 after the Blechammer raid (Florisdorf Oil Refinery) in which the group received a Presidential Unit Citation.
My Grandfather crash landed the plane because the right main gear had been shot out with flak. He had also suffered a head wound when a piece of flak had come through the windshield. Waist Gunner Sol Ravwitz had also been hit in the leg by flak. The Co-Pilot, Joe Young, had just arrived from the States for his first raid.
My Grandfather was also Co-Pilot/Pilot of PISTOL PACKIN' MAMA (42-52563), flew 50 missions, then came home.
