This was one of the 34th BG's original complement of B-24s and was flown to England by the Warren E. Thrun crew. Before the 34th BG could begin combat operations, this plane was lost to a training accident.
On 12 May 44, the William E. Pedigo crew's plane COKEY FLO (44-40486) was down for maintenance, so they flew TOMMY THUMPER on their training mission. At the conclusion of the mission they came in for a very hard landing which broke the plane in the tail skid area. None of the crew members were injured but the plane had to be salvaged. The Thrun crew then took over B-24H 42-94811 and re-named it TOMMY THUMPER II.
