Info Contributor - James A. Leddy
I have this photo from the NARA with the following caption: "In an Iwo Jima strike precluding the invasion of the volcano island, 55-gallon drum incendiary bombs are directed by Saipan-based 7th AAF Consolidated B-24 Liberators on a wooded area near the invasion beach where possible Jap enfilading fire might be encountered. Partially a test strike to determine effectiveness of the drum fire bombs, conducted by the Chemical warfare section of AAFPOA, the effectiveness of the bombs was undetermined due to poor reconnaissance conditions. Twenty-one bombers in all made the strike on 1 Feb 45, dropping eight drums each from 19,000 to 20,000 feet."
There are also markings on the back of the photo to indicate that the photo was to be used by author Ken Rust in his book:

"Seventh Air Force Story"
